OVER 80% OF ALL HEALTH CARE WORKERS SURVEYED REVEALED THEY EXPERIENCED ABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR FROM A COLLEAGUE.
We can change things for the better by acknowledging that abuse is happening and open up healthy dialogue to deal with it in the right way.
That is why we have created this program. It is meant to help those who are being abused speak up, and help those abusing others to recognize there are better ways to communicate and deal with our challenges and frustrations.
Watch the videos and then click on the links to the materials. The information you will find here offers practical solutions for helping us all deal with the abuse in our workplaces. There is also a special section called “One good thing a day.” It is a list of ideas you can bring with you into your workplace everyday to help make things better for you and those you work with.
We see a scene play out when there is an imbalance of power in the workplace. There will always be a dominant group and a subordinate group. The subordinate group or oppressed group often feel powerless to stand up for themselves.
Fish in Water Theory
Witness what happens when people in the workplace become so used to their own behaviours that they become relatively unaware of the fact that they are acting abusively.
Broken Window Theory
As you’ll see in this video, there are consequences when you don’t deal with issues as soon as they occur. Much like a broken window in a building, if ignored and not fixed right away, more windows will soon be broken leading to bigger problems.
In our workplaces, co-worker abuse is often the elephant in the room. It’s something people acknowledge is happening but they are often not properly equipped to deal with the issues in the right way. We introduce you to co-worker abuse issues that you may have encountered and some that may surprise you. We also offer positive and constructive solutions to help deal with the problems in the best way possible. Our goal isn’t to point fingers but to equip all of us to deal with the issues together so we can enjoy a more positive work place.
Positive change can happen one small gesture at a time. We’ve started a list of positive ideas you can bring with you into your workplace, and we hope you’ll put your own thoughts and ideas to work. As you’ll find out, it doesn’t take a lot of effort or energy to make a difference.
